Based on the key findings of the ANVIL (Analysis of Civil Security Systems in Europe) project, efficiency and effectiveness in civil protection and disaster management in Poland and in Central Europe are discussed. Possible pathways to increased effectiveness and efficiency in this field are outlined, building also on the examples from other regions in Europe and taking public opinion into consideration.
